Van Cleef Necklace Turquoise

While the economic meltdown may have dampened red carpet risk taking for many attending the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, there were a few courageous types who wet their feet in the pool of optimism by choosing colorful gowns and jewels in favor of typical black frocks and diamond staples.

Eva Mendes wears this dramatic necklace composed of 132 blue turquoise gems accented by more than 36 carats of diamonds set in 18k yellow gold from the Van Cleef & Arpels Private Collection, circa 1974.

The most memorable gown colors were in shades of pink, purple and red, hues of deep blue, and hints of buttercup, coral and tangerine. Some divas went for the gold and even bridal whites. Silhouettes favored one-shoulder full skirt looks, with statement earrings outpacing conversation neckpieces. Big gemmy cocktail rings and stacks of gem-set bracelets continue to be a red carpet mainstay.
